Council rejects Buddhist retreat plan

ABC News, Apr 30, 2009

Yarrowyck. Australia -- The Uralla Shire Council has rejected plans for a Buddhist retreat at Yarrowyck.

A local landholder is hoping to build the retreat on the Bundarra Road in keeping with Buddhist Retreat philosophy and requirements that will include nine huts or 'yurts'.

Mayor Mark Dusting says the application does not meet requirements set by the Rural Fire Service.

He says the council has not closed the door on the project.

"If they resubmit and come up with an appropriate fire plan and appropriate fire organisation with approval from the Rural Fire Service it'll probably go ahead," he said.
