Dalai Lama affirms link to Nalanda Tradition

Dharmsala, India -- The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, reaffirmed his deep-rooted connection to Indian philosophical traditions.
The Nalanda tradition, originating from the Nalanda University in ancient India, serves as a focal point for the convergence of Buddhist and Hindu philosophical thought.
Emphasising his affiliation with this tradition, the Dalai Lama stated, "I am a follower of the Nalanda tradition, as it encapsulates the essence of Indian thought that has endured for millennia." He was speaking to a group of journalists in Dharmshala, the headquarters of the Tibetan government in exile.
His acknowledgement underscores his respect for India's intellectual heritage and links with Tibetan Buddhism. Throughout history, Tibetan scholars have sought refuge and inspiration in India, contributing to cultural exchange and spiritual exploration.
While maintaining his Tibetan identity, the Dalai Lama's embrace of the Nalanda tradition reflects a broader recognition of the universality of spiritual truths. The affirmation of his alignment with the Nalanda tradition also serves as a testament to the enduring bonds between Tibetan and Indian cultures.
