Buddhists in Russia celebrate New Year

ULAN-UDE, Russia -- Head of the Buddhist Church in Russia Pandito Hambo Lama Damba Ayusheyev has congratulated Buddhist believers in Russia upon the Luna New Year - the Year of the Fire Dog by the Chinese zodiac, that begins on January 30.

He wished both Buddhist believers and all citizens of Russia to follow old traditions and "harvest the fruits of rightful deeds."

The head of the Buddhist church in Russia expressed gratitude to the federal bodies of power for a high assessment of the role played by followers of the Buddhist religion in Russia's public life.

Ayusheyev appreciated the fact that he was elected to the Russian Public Chamber as the continuation of the Russian state traditions remarkable for tolerance of different religions.
