Meditation classes at Old Police Station in Runcorn to target suffering roots

Runcorn, UK -- MEDITATION classes begin this month in Runcorn. Its organisers, from Odiyana Buddhist Centre in Northwich, claim the course can help residents to understand the causes of suffering and therefore train their minds to better pursue happiness.

A centre spokesman said modern culture has failed to deliver any more contentment than previous, less materially wealthy eras.

He added that the root of problems must therefore be found within the mind, rather than in controlling external circumstance.

He said: “The main causes of happiness and suffering are not found outside the mind.

“Therefore if we want to transform our life we must learn to transform our consciousness.

“Suffering, problems, worries, unhappiness and pain are unpleasant feelings, which are part of our mind.

“Through purifying our mind we can stop them once and for all.”

The seven week course is at the Old Police Station on Mersey Road and is on Monday nights at 7.30pm from February 28 to April 11.
