Attanagalla Sirisanghabo Foundation to the fore to help tsunami affected

Attanagalla, Sri Lanka -- On an initiative by the Chief Sangha Nayake Siyane Sivu Korale and Vihardipathi Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Thera and Sirisanghabo Social Service Foundation of Attanagalla in collaboration with the Abbess of Taiwan's Tayuan Buddhist Centre, Siek Chiu Chin have launched a program to build 335 houses for tsunami victims in Pereliya, Telwatta and Daluwatumulla areas in the Hikkaduwa Divisional Secretary's Division.

A total of 150 houses completed under the first stage of this program will be handed over to 150 adversely affected families of the area by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at a ceremony held at Telwatta on September 24.

Ven. Dr. Pannila Anandaa Thera who co-ordinates this project, said that these houses were built at a cost of Rs. 52.5 million and the entire project is estimated cost Rs. 122.5 million.

Each house costs Rs. 350,000. A major portion of the total cost will be borne by Abbess Siek Chinu Chin of Taiwan's Tayauan Buddhist Centre, while the balance cost will be borne by the Attangalla Sirisanghabo Social Services Foundation headed by Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Nayake Thera.

To mark the handing over ceremony of houses, a Bodhi Pooja and an all-night chanting of Seth Pirith were held at Thotagamuwa Ranpath Viharaya in Telwatta on September 23.

Forenoon Dana for 250 Bhikkus was held on September 24, Ven. Dr. Ananda Thera said.
