Buddhist-monk committee to advise Minister of Justice

Colombo, Sri Lanka -- Minister of Justice and Law Reforms Milinda Moragoda has appointed a group of eminent senior Buddhist Monk’s of all Nikayas as honorary advisors to the Ministry.

The inaugural meeting of the advisory Committee was scheduled to be held in Kandy yesterday (1) at 1.00 p.m. at Central Province Governor’s Residence, in association with the Ministry officials and invitees to work out a future action plan.

This advisory committee consists of thirty Monks including Ven. Niyangoda Vijitha Anunayaka Thero, Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Anunayaka Thero, Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thero,Ven. Godagama Mangala Thero, Ven. Dr. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkitha Thero, Ven. Dr. Ittapane Dhammalankara Thero, Ven. Weleboda Gunasiri Thero and Ven. Akurateye Nanda Thero.

Minister Moragoda is planning to solicit advice of this committee to reform the administration of Justice and make it more people oriented, infused with Buddhist vision. Minister Moragoda, Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Central Province Governor, Suhada Gamlath Ministry Secretary and officers of all other institutes under the Ministry were due to participate at yesterday’s meeting.

The new policy of the Government is to ensure a unified and inclusive approach to develop and maintain law and order in Sri Lanka after the eradication of terrorism.
