Mount Wutai festival

Shaanxi, China -- The Mount Wutai festival in the Chinese province of Shaanxi is set to take place from July 14th to August 12th.

The month long international tour festival is a rare opportunity for visitors to see the Buddhist rituals that take place at Mount Wutai, one of the country's most sacred mountains due to its association with the Bodhisattva of wisdom, Munjusri, who once lived here and taught Buddhism.

Today it is the only mountain in China where Buddhism and Tibetan Lamaism are practised side by side.

Visitors can turn up and view the amazing structures and events that take place on the site as well as the incredible sights of the outlying land.

Mount Wutai lies some 3,058 metres above sea level, meaning the views are terrific but that those not in the best of shape may find themselves somewhat short of breath.
