Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai said Mr. Borwornsak had informed the Thaksin cabinet of his resignation as Cabinet secretary and his intention to manifest personal devotion to His Majesty the King by entering Buddhist monkhood this Saturday.
Mr. Surakiart expressed his admiration for the former Cabinet secretary, who is known for his legal expertise and ability to coordinate with varied government personnel.
He neither confirmed nor denied rumours that Dr. Borwornsak might become a legal advisor attached to the Thai Rak Thai Party after he leaves the monkhood.
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-Ngam said Mr. Borwornsak will not return to his current government post after he leaves the monkhood.
A former dean of the Law Faculty at Chulalongkorn University, Dr. Borwornsak was also a key member of the drafting assembly of Thailand's current Constitution.
