Cambodia's Wat Damnak undergoing restoration

Khmer Times, 22 June 2024

Siem Reap, Cambodia -- The restoration of the 100-year-old Buddhist Vihara in Wat Damnak is a significant endeavor to preserve this national heritage site.

The historical and cultural importance of this vihara is evident from its age and the purpose for which it was built. The presence of a large Buddha image within the vihara underscores its significance as a place of worship and reverence for Buddhists.

The deteriorating condition of the vihara, including the damage to its roof and other structural elements, necessitated urgent attention to ensure its longevity. The efforts of the APSARA National Authority to undertake the renovation project demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding this sacred structure for future generations.

By investing in the restoration of this ancient architecture, the authorities are not only preserving its heritage but also enabling Buddhists to continue their religious practices within this revered space. The completion of the renovation by 2024 will mark a significant milestone in ensuring the continued relevance and functionality of the Buddhist Vihara in Wat Damnak.
