MAGELANG, Indonesia -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend the Waisak Day commemoration at the Borobudur Temple in Magelang district, Central Java, on Saturday.

The Central Java representative of the Indonesian Buddhist Community (Walubi) David Hermanjaya said Thursday the President would attend the observance of Waisak Day to mark Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death.

"President Yudhoyono will attend. Therefore, various preparations have been made at Borobudur temple," David said, adding that the President would be accompanied by Religious Affairs Minister Muhammad Maftuh Basyuni.

David said this year's Waisak Day would be held at Lumbini Park, located at the eastern foot of Borobudur temple.

Followers from the Buddhist community, as well as hundreds of monks from across Indonesia and abroad from places such as Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore will attend the ceremony.

Three major events revolving around the life of Buddha are celebrated on Waisak Day and are usually marked with religious and social activities around the country.
