Arizona Daily Star, March 23, 2009

Tucson, Arizona (USA) -- A fundraiser is planned for Tucson's Three Jewels Center from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at 314 E. Sixth St.

The suggested donation, which will support future free programming at the Buddhist center, is $25.

This "Roaring Night of Teachings, Treats and Screaming Deal Auctions" will include a talk by American Buddhist monk Sumati Marut. Marut is a former surfer who has taught for more than 20 years at Columbia University and the University of California. He is ordained in Tibetan Buddhism.

On Wednesday, Marut will lead participants through the "eight-limbed path to bliss," including a look at how and why to cultivate a moral life, the way karma works, and the transformative power of meditation.

Auction items for the event will include private yoga lessons, gift certificates, a spa package, a hand-knit ballerina shrug and naturopathic services.
