Sungai Buloh, Selangor (Malaysia) -- The serene chanting of the Great Compassion Mantra filled the air as Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM - 法鼓山) celebrated the groundbreaking of its new center in Kwasa Damansara, Malaysia. Led by nuns from DDM, the ceremony marked a significant milestone in the organization's mission to spread Buddhist teachings in the region.
Over 500 supporters and well wishers gathered for the spiritually rich event, including representatives from prominent Buddhist organizations such as the Malaysian Buddhist Association, Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia, Yayasan Belia Buddhis Malaysia, and Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia. Venerable Mingji and Venerable Jichern (繼程), respected Malaysian Dharma masters, attended as guests of honor.
The new six-story building, set to begin construction in 2025 and complete by 2027, will feature a Dharma hall, classrooms, lecture halls, and dormitories for the Sangha. Its prime location near the Kwasa MRT Station and easy access to highways and Subang city airport promises to make it a hub for Buddhist learning and practice.
Venerable Guo Huei (果暉法師), DDM's Abbot President, praised Malaysian Buddhists for their dedication to Dharma studies in his welcoming speech. He emphasized that the new center is a response to the growing spiritual thirst in the country and a testament to the flourishing of Buddhist teachings in Malaysia.
Highlighting DDM's holistic approach, Venerable Guo Huei introduced the organization's vision of "four kinds of environmental protection": spiritual, natural, living, and social. He explained how DDM strives to popularize Chinese Chan Buddhism as a means to purify both individual minds and society as a whole.
The ceremony concluded with the guests of honor symbolically breaking ground, marking the beginning of this ambitious project that aims to further strengthen the presence of Buddhist teachings in Malaysia.
As the chants faded and the crowd dispersed, there was a palpable sense of anticipation for the positive impact this new center will have on the local Buddhist community and beyond.
