Buddhist Film Festival set to kick off

HONG KONG, China -- First Asian edition of the Int'l Buddhist Film Festival gets underway May 17 for four days in Singapore.

Selection ranges from award-winners from the regular fest circuit to selected episodes of "The Simpsons."

Proceedings get underway with "Shower," a 1999 pic by Chinese helmer Zhang Yang, and include recent AFI Fest documentary prize-winner "Buddha's Lost Children" by Mark Verkerk.

Also on the agenda is "The Cup" and Travellers and Magicians," both helmed by monk Kyentse Norbu and two from German helmer Doris Doerrie: "Enlightenment Guaranteed" from 2000 and her recent docu "How To Cook Your Life," about San Francisco chef and Zen priest Edward Espe Brown.

Event is organized by the Asian Buddhist Film Festival, which has a strategic partnership with Oakland, CA., non-profit org the Buddhist Film Society.
