Political activities are forbidden for Sangha members

by Jorge de Silva, Los Angeles, California, The Buddhist Channel, Sept 13, 2006

Aung Zaw's article about Burmese monks in revolt is correct.

History has shown that monks have played a pivotal role in Burmese politics, just like in Sri Lanka, but there is no debate of whether the political activities of the Sangha are correct or not: it is forbidden by the rules of vinaya, which governs the affairs of the Sangha.

These Burmese monks know this, but they make excuses for their misconduct and make a joke out of the Buddhist tradition, just like those in Colombo (Sri Lanka).

If this is what Buddhism has become, then it's diseased and needs to be put down like a rapid dog. This is not Buddhism. It's a perversion of it.
