Dalai Lama is not head of the Gelug school

David McRitchie, Toronto, Canada, The Buddhist Channel, March 21, 2005

I would like to correct an error which appeared in your story regarding the visit of the Dalai Lama to Sikkim on April 20th of this year.

His Highness is not the head of the Gelug school. The head of the Gelug School is the Venerable Ganden Tripa (throne-holder) Rinpoche. The present Ganden Tri Rinpoche is Venerable Yeshe Dhönden who is the 99th successor to the Ganden throne.
