Daily Mirror, April 21, 2008

Oslo, Norway -- At an international conference on ‘Peace and Reconciliation in Southeast Asia’ held in Oslo recently, a delegation of Buddhist monks, led by Kotte Sri Naga Viharadhipathi, the Ven.Maduluwawe Sobhitha Nayake Thera, said there should be a negotiated political settlement of the Sri Lankan ethnic problem on the basis of an undivided country.

The ven thera, in a statement, lauded parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene for his proposal to the Norwegian government, to establish a Buddhist temple in Oslo.

The statement said that, during a meeting with Norwegian ministers, Dr. Jayawardene had requested the assistance of the Royal Norwegian Government to build this temple for the benefit of Sri Lankan Buddhists in Norway.

Dr. Jayawardene had emphasized the fact that the establishment of a Buddhist temple in Norway would also enable Norwegians to gain a better understanding of Buddhism, it added.
