All profits from The Lamas Pyjamas shop on Bethnal Green's Roman Road will go to the Buddhist centre of which it is part. The centre which runs meditation and Buddhism courses also manages the Wild Cherry café, the Evolution gift shop, the LBC and Jambala bookshops and the natural health centre Bodywise in Bethnal Green.

The charity shop's co-owner Padmalila Coulson, an ordained Buddhist, explained they are planning to run workshops showing people how to mend their old clothes. Later they hope to run workshops demonstrating how recycled clothes can be turned into other products.

She said: "We decorated and fitted the shop ourselves using mainly recycled materials for the shop fit. So the brackets, shelves and furniture are recycled, the only new things are the hangers, till and steamer."

The shop is planning to hold an official opening day next month. It is open Monday to Friday from 12noon to 6pm and Saturdays from 10.30am to 6pm.
