Lanka Everything, Feb 29, 2008

London, UK -- A religious ceremony was held at the Chiswick London Buddhist Temple on last Sunday in memory of former Minister & Gampaha District MP Sripathi Sooriarachchi who died under tragic circumstances a week ago in Sri Lanka. The pinkama was conducted by the High Priest of the temple Rev. Seelawimala Thero.

This pinkama was organised by a group of MP Sooriarachchi’s friends in the UK headed by Dr. Sampath Wickramatane attended by a large gathering patronised by the UNP – UK branch.

Rev. Dhammananada Thero of the London Buddhist Vihara delivered the commemoration sermon while the vote of thanks was proposed by Tissa Samarasinghe, General Secretary of the United National Party, UK Branch.

Action was also taken to establish a scholarship fund to support the education of 06 children of the three officers who died along with the MP at the accident in Anuradhapura. A large number of Sri Lankans are expected to patronise to this scholarship scheme by way of monthly contributions.
