'Vesak Day' held at Sri Lankan High Commission

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Sri Lankan High Commission organised a ceremony to mark the 'Vesak Day' here on Monday in which a number of ambassadors from Buddhist countries also participated to perform the religious rituals.

Vesak or Tripple Anniversary is the thrice blessed full moon day of May and is the holiest day for Buddhists. Buddists all over the world celebrate this day that symbolizes peace, love and piety.

Buddhist community along with the diplomats of various neighboring states of Sri Lanka performed religious services with belief and serenity.  he believers of Buddhist creed laid flowers before the statue of Buddha and also lit perfumed wicks.

Addressing the participants the ambassador of Sri Lanka to Pakistan Dr. W.B. Dorakumbure said that Buddhism was the religion of peace and taught its followers to respect other religions. " In Sri Lanka there is no conflicts on the basis of religion and the followers of all faiths like Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists practice their religious teachings without any fear", he added. 

The participants of the worship ceremony recited religious stanzas in the praise of the Buddha. In the Vesak ritual religious songs like 'Qawali' of our culture were also played to appease the spiritual hunger of the believers of the Buddhist faith.
