Nepal should make separate Buddhist circuit

MyRepublica, Aug 19, 2014

LUMBINI, Nepal -- Nepal should develop a separate Buddhist circuit to link different shrines related to Lord Buddha in the country.

The Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) has said that the Buddhist circuit being developed by the Indian side has only proposed to link Lumbini with its network and that would not be fruitful for Nepal and therefore, Nepal should create separate Buddhist circuit to link all Buddhist shrine places.

The separate circuit should link Lumbini, Tilaurakot, Devdaha and Ramgram to attract foreign tourists by preparing an integrated pilgrimage package, Acharya Karma Lama, vice chair of the LDT said.

On the other hand, India has expedited the construction works on the Buddhist circuit linking Bodhgaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar. Indian side had proposed to link Lumbini to the Indian Buddhist circuit, it is learnt.

This agenda was much-discussed during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal. The Indian circuit covers some 700 kilometres.
