Lumbini to host int'l Buddhist meet

KATHMANDU, Nepal -- An international Buddhist conference will be held in Lumbini on November 15-18 for the preservation and protection of Buddhist culture and heritage, organisers said at a press meet at the Reporters' Club Nepal.
“This conference will help create a better understanding of Buddhist culture along with room for research,” said Former Minister and Organising Committee Director Keshav Man Shakya. Theravada Buddhist Academy, affiliated to the Lumbini Buddhist University, in association with Sitagu International Buddhist Academy in Myanmar is organising the conference.
Shakya said the objectives of the conference include encouraging research and education, and promoting spiritual and cultural tourism. According to Navin Chitrakar, press coordinator for the conference, a 40-member organising committee has been formed under the joint leadership of Ven Gyanpurnik of Theravada Buddhist Academy and Ven Bhadanta Ashin Nyanissara of the InternationalBuddhist University.
Experts from Nepal will present a plan on Lumbini’s development during the conference, the organisers said.
