4th International Buddhist Conference concludes

Kathmandu, Nepal -- The 4th International Conference on Buddhist Heritage of Nepal Mandala 2005 concluded in Kathmandu on Saturday.

The four day conference with the slogan 'Collaboration for the Preservation, Upliftment and Co-existence of Buddhist Heritage in Asia' had kicked off on September 7.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Buddhi Raj Bajracharya, who had inaugurated the conference earlier, gave away tokens of appreciation and certificates to Buddhist personalities and institutions to mark the closing ceremony yesterday, reports said.

The Conference was aimed at the preservation, promotion and continuity of Buddhist religion and culture in the countries practicing Buddhism.

Foreign and Nepalese participants presented some 30 working papers on subjects such as status and challenges of Buddhism in Nepal, Buddhist tradition and world peace, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said.

Foreign Buddhism experts from 11 countries including China, Vietnam, Japan, Mongolia, Germany, Bangladesh, Australia participated in the conference.

The conference showcased exhibitions on Mandala, ritual artifacts, sculptures, paintings, published books, manuscripts, photos and ritual ceremonies related with Buddhism of Nepal Mandala.

The conference was organised by Lotus Research Centre, Lalitpur in collaboration with 19 other organisations.
