Thai foreign minister prays at Bodh Gaya temple

Gaya, India -- Thai foreign minister Sathirathai arrived in Bodh Gaya with an 18-member delegation Friday by a special flight and will stay there till Sunday, sources said.

Temple sources said the foreign minister offered prayers Friday evening after his arrival and also on Saturday morning.

Thailand is one of the Buddhist countries that have shown keen interest in developing Bodh Gaya as a pilgrimage centre.

Sri Lanka's President Chandrika Kumaratunga is scheduled to visit Bodh Gaya Sunday to inaugurate a global convention of Buddhist youths.

Myanmar's military ruler Gen. Than Shwe had offered prayers Thursday at the Mahabodhi temple.
