Buddhist relics display

Andhracafe, Dec 31, 2005

Bavikonda, India -- For the first time in the State, holy Buddhist relics of Bavikonda, which date back to the 3rd century BC, will be enshrined in a holy relic gallery at the A.P.State Museum.

The gallery will be inaugurated by the Dalai Lama on January 2, 2006. The relics were in the strong room of the State Museum for years since they were discovered at Bavikonda in Visakhapatnam when archaeologists were conserving a monument.

Previously, these relics would be brought out of the strong room only during Budha Purnima and were accessible to VIPs only. However, the museum officials have decided to enshrine these relics and put them for display to the general public.
