Press Trust of India, January 5, 2006

Amaravathi, Andhra Pradesh -- Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama set in motion the 12-day Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) ritual in this ancient Buddish town with call for promotion of world peace and tolerance.

"The message of love and peace can be spread by constant dialogue and interaction between scholars of various religions," Dalai Lama, who was participating in the Kalachakra ritual 30th year, said after inaugurating the ceremony.

Kalachakra, which was first empowered by Buddha, has been a ritual where message of peace would be delivered by Buddhist priests besides prayers.

Disapproving the belief that fundamentalism was growing world over, Dalai Lama said, "It's not fundamentalism but the growth of media that has resulted in giving the conflict a wider publicity."

Contending that happiness comes from promotion of human values, the Buddist monk, said the aim of Kalachakra is development of inner values of human beings.

Union minister S Jaipal Reddy, state minister J Geeta Reddy and K Laxminarayana paricipated in the programme which was attended by hundreds of Buddist monks from across South Asia and far Eastern countries.
