Seminar on Pali

Pune, India -- THE two-day international seminar on the status of Pali and Buddhist studies began at the University of Pune (UoP) on Monday. The seminar is to overview the condition and growth of this language, to discuss the problems and to search for new direction and horizons in the studies and research.

A major section of the seminar will also be dedicated to the future of Pali and the present state of the language and Buddhist studies in India at different universities particularly Maharashtra.

The seminar was inaugurated by former dean, faculty of arts, Gorakhpur University, Karunesh Shukla . Representatives from Jammu, Delhi University, Calcutta University, Nalanda, Bombay participated in this seminar. Besides, representatives from Sampurnananda Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya,Varanasi, Nagarjuna University from Andhra Pradesh, Vipasayana centre,Igatpuri. International students from Buddhist studies at the University of Pune (UoP) and other parts of the country participated in the seminar.

M G Dhadphale, honorary secretary, Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute(BORI) delivered the inaugural speech. Two persons from the department of Pali, UoP were felicitated.

The department of Pali along with the department of Sanskrit-Prakrit language UoP and Nav Nalanda Mahavihar, Nalanda had organised the seminar on the occasion of 2550th year of Mahaparinirvan of Buddha.
