Dalai Lama to visit SA in November

New Delhi, India -- The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will visit South Africa in November, it was announced on Tuesday.

The Dalai Lama will spend a week in South Africa from November 3-7, according to an official release issued by his office in Dharmshala in the northern Indian hill state of Himachal Pradesh.

The Tibetan spiritual leader lives in exile in India.

The Dalai Lama will be visiting South Africa at the invitation of the African Cultural Heritage Trust. Most of his visit would be spent in Johannesburg where he would be interacting with local people and students and visiting Buddhist centres.

His programme includes a visit to the Lam Rim Buddhist Centre and an address to business leaders at the Lesedi Cultural Village, both in Johannesburg, on November 4.

On November 5, he will visit the Cida City Campus where he will give an address and interact with students.

This is the Dalai Lama's third visit to South Africa. His first trip was in 1996 followed by another in 1999.
