Speaking at the 2553rd Buddha Jayanthi celebrations organised by the Dakshina Kannada Buddha Mahasabha here on Saturday, he said Buddhism, unlike other faiths, did not support rites or rituals. Instead, it urged human beings to develop their reasoning power and find solutions, he said.

According to him, Buddhism was free of superstitious beliefs and showed the way for those who wished to lead a life of self respect and self reliance, which is why Ambedkar stressed on the path of Buddha to achieve social justice.

Speaking on the occasion, Buddhist monk Kalyanashri Bhanteji said the overall development of one's personality was possible when each individual focused on introspection.
