MahaBodhi Society to start 2550th Buddha Jayanti Celebrations

Kolkata, India -- MahaBodhi Society will start celebrating their year-long 2550th Buddha Jayanti from Wednesday onwards.

General Secretary of the society D Rewatha Thero said Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Deshmukh would attend the inaugural function. The ceremony would be inaugrated by Srilankan Speaker W J N Lokubhandar.

Around 2000 followers and 100 Buddhist monks would participate in this function.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has assured cooperation from the state government Dr Rewatha said.

The celebrations would simultaneously take place at all prominent Buddhist places.

The main religious function would take place in Bodh Gaya on February 13, where Dalai Lama would inaugurate a Buddhist Monk College.

More than twenty thousand followers from India and abroad would meet in Bodh Gaya, added D Rewatha Thero.
