Buddhist temple gutted in fire

Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh (India) -- The Mabira Buddhist Temple in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh was burnt to ashes in a devastating fire, official sources said here today.

The cause of the fire, which occurred on Wednesday last, is yet to be ascertained, sources said adding there was no report of any casualty.

Mabira is a small island village of about 20 households surrounded by the river Lohit and Teang under Chowkham circle.

Working president of Khampti-Singpho Council (KSC), circle officer, Chowkham and others visited the spot to assess the damage caused by the fire.

State Education Minister Chowna Mein, local legislator C T Mein have contributed some cash as immediate relief, sources added.
