Hundreds of Dalits embrace Buddhism

HUBLI, India -- To mark the golden jubilee year of Dr B R Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism, hundreds of Dalits along with other backward caste people embraced Buddhism, here on Sunday.

Apart from local people, Dalits from neighbouring districts also participated in the conversion.

MLA and Ahinda leader Dr H C Mahadevappa, Bandhantha Saari Putra of Bijapur’s International Youth Boudha Sangh, Y B Nandan, Hegar Thyathyarao, Devendra Lingadal, P M Bilarm, Prasad Abbaiah, B Somashekhar and others were present.

Bhodhi Datta Bhantheji of Dr Ambedkar Prathishtana, Bangalore, instructed Boudha Dhamma Trisarana Panchasheela Dikshe before the conversion.
