Sri Lankan Buddhist monk’s application for ASP post in the Police rejected

Colombo, Sri Lanka -- Application of a Buddhist monk who applied for the post of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been rejected by the National Police Commission in Sri Lanka.

A spokesman for the National Police Commission said that they can not take Buddhist monks into the service, as Buddhist monks are not allowed to do police work in Sri Lanka. The monk was among nearly 1,000 people, who applied for the job, the spokesman said.

The spokesman also said that the monk first have to give up his saffron robes and leave the monastery to join the Police service. The name of the monk was not released by the Commission.
