Sri Lanka President pays homage to sacred relics of the Buddha

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka -- President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid homage to the sacred hair relics of the Buddha, gifted by Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, at the Gangaramaya, Hunupitiya, yesterday.
The sacred relics were brought from the Bandaranaike International Airport in a motorcade to the Gangaramaya, where President Rajapaksa received and enshrined them in a special chamber for devotees to pay homage. The exposition will continue till Sunday.
Viharadhipathi Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera said the relics were a noble gift from the Bangladesh to the people of Sri Lanka.
All Sri Lankans should support the President's endeavour to restore peace without considering petty differences, the Thera said.
Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, who received the relics from the Buddhist community in Bangladesh on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government and the people, was also present.
