Myanmar Buddhist monks launch protest march in Sri Lanka

Galle, Sri Lanka -- Myanmar Buddhist monks living in Sri Lanka launched a protest march from Galle this morning against the military Junta in their country.

Around 100 Myanmar Buddhist monks with several local monks were observed marching along the Colombo –Galle road with banners and placards.

The march is to reach Hikkaduwa today. The organizers said that the march will continue until Tuesday when they intend to reach the UN office, Colombo.

A petition to be handed over to the UN office requesting international action against the military junta by the monks, the sources added.

Today is also the 60th Independence Day of Myanmar.
