The Officer in Charge of the Borelasgamuwa Police said the hand grenade was thrown at the resting room (Avasaya Ge). The incumbent monk, Polonnaruwe Seelananda Thera, was in the Dharma Sala but the young student bhikku had been resting on a mattress on the floor of the room when it came under attack.

The bomb caused heavy damage to the room where the incumbent monk used to rest.

The Borelasgamuwa Police have arrested eight persons for questioning over the incident and have recorded their statements. The Police are conducting a special investigation into the incident.
