Government has requested to hoist the Buddhist flag in all government buildings and residences during the Vesak Week. It has also requested to keep government buildings illuminated during this week.
There are number of Pandols and Vesak Lanterns expected to be erected in Thotalanga, Dematagoda, Borella and Peliyagoda in Colombo and several other outstation towns.
It is significant the Buddhists residing in north and east are also making arrangements to celebrate the Vesak festival after 30 years. People in Batticaloa, Kalmunei and Jaffna are making preparations to commemorate this grand event.
The Sri Lanka Transport Board has made special bus services for devotees to visit Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Mahiyangana and Kelaniya during the Vesak period. Special train services will also be held tomorrow and day-after to Anuradhapura and Kalutara. These trains will start from Colombo Fort and Maradana Railway Station.
