Buddhist shrine emerges in Madhu

Sri Lanka Guardian, July 18, 2010

Colombo, Sri Lanka -- According to news published in Neruppu.com, a Buddhist shrine has been erected at Periya Panndi Virichchan village, about two kilometres away from the Madhu Catholic shrine in the Madhu Assistant Government Agent’s division.

The shrine has come up near the army camp and the soldiers are visiting the shrine. The news report also states that the area surrounding the newly established Buddhist shrine is experiencing resettlement programme of the government.

It is questioned as to why this shrine has come up outside the camp. A shrine inside the camp would not have caused concerns in the environs of progressively mushrooming Buddhist shrines in the sensitive and heavily army occupied areas in the north.
