With only five years till the 2015 deadline to achieve the MDGs, world leaders met on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in New York to accelerate the progress towards reaching these goals.
Meanwhile, President Rajapaksa was among World leaders, representatives of non-governmental organizations, philanthropists and some of the world’s leading private companiy Chief Executive Officers who attended the inaugural ceremony of the sixth Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiatives (CGI) held at Sheraton Hotel Tower in NY.
The CGI foundation will discuss issues plaguing many developing countries. The foundation, which hopes to interest the private sector in investing money on non-profit developmental programmes, will address many key issues like women empowerment, unemployment, energy usage and consumption among many other issues. The three-day long CGI meeting will end today.
The official website of the CGI foundation says that United States President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle will be present at this year’s meeting.
