Colombo, Sri Lanka -- The Sri Lanka Ministry of Education has informed Zonal Directors of Education to recall the Grades Six and Ten Buddhism textbooks due to serious errors in content. The books had already been given to schools for free distribution to children.

As a result, 140,000 copies of the books are to be returned to the Ministry and new books will be provided. However, the Assistant Commissioner of Education Publications Sriyani Abekoon told media that the same books would be redistributed after adding several correction pages.

It is reported that the relevant official has approved the book for publishing.

An official of the National Institute of Education said the relevant books were revised several times by several advisory committees prior to the publishing.
