Colombo, Sri Lanka -- The Education Ministry has made arrangements to appoint qualified persons to teach Buddhism in Government schools.

A 2007 survey revealed that a considerable number of Buddhism teachers are not qualified to teach the subject.

The Education Ministry has issued a circular requesting principals to assign teachers who have the qualifications to teach Buddhism. According to the circular issued on April 25, there are 13 requirements which have to be met by Buddhism teachers.

The circular also advised principals to allocate classes in the morning to teach Buddhism.
