The Dalai Lama also had to be hospitalized in August in Bombay.
The spokesman said the Dalai Lama's health will not pose any problems for the visit to Japan.
The Dalai Lama plans to leave New Delhi on Friday and remain in Japan until Nov. 7.
He is scheduled to deliver speeches Nov. 3 in Tokyo at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan and Nov. 4 in Kitakyushu, the spokesman said.
The Dalai Lama has called for full-fledged autonomy of the Tibetan people.
Beijing has meanwhile denounced him as a political leader promoting secessionism.
