Tibetans take out rally on Kriti monastery issue

TNN, Apr 25, 2011

DHARAMSHALA, India -- Thousands of Tibetans, including monks, nuns and students from Tibetan Children Village (TCV) took out a rally from Buddhist temple, Mcleodganj to main chowk at Dharamshala on Sunday following reports from Ngaba region in Tibet of the alleged detention of 300 monks from Kriti Monastery and killing of two elder Tibetans during a clash on the night of April 21 by Chinese forces deployed there after a Tibetan monk set himself on fire.

Tibetans gathered before the main gate of main temple at Mcleodganj this morning and marched to Dharamshala holding placards in hands and raising slogans "sath do duniya walo sath do" and "what we want.. we want freedom", among others.

All the activists gathered at the main chowk, Dharamshala, where they were addressed by the Dolkar Lhamo, president of TWA. During her address Lhamo said that limits had been crossed and now international intervention was necessary. Dolkar told TOI that situation was getting worse day by day at the Kriti monastery where no one was allowed to go inside.

"We are highly distressed by the present situation there and we want that other nations should intervene in the matter to ease out the conditions of the monks and the local Tibetans over there," she said.
