Taiwan's Tzu Chi rescue team leaves for Indonesia

Taipei, Taiwan -- A Taiwanese Buddhist organization has sent a rescue team to Indonesia to help victims of a massive earthquake that struck Sumatra on Wednesday night.

The death toll from the quake stood at nine at broadcast time, which is low for a tremor registering at 8.2 on the Richter scale.

The 13-member team from Taiwan's Buddhist Compaasionate Relief Tzu Chi foundation includes doctors, nurses, a pharmacist and other volunteers.

In addition to offering medical services, the team will also bring food and water to the affected area.

The Tzu Chi foundation is known for its relief work in the wake of natural disasters, not only in Taiwan, but around the world.
