Prefab houses for typhoon victims

Central News Agency, AUg 15, 2009

Taipei, Taiwan -- The Tzu Chi Foundation, a Buddhist charity, said yesterday it is planning to build 95 prefabricated housing units in Taitung, eastern Taiwan, for victims of Typhoon Morakot.

According to Tzu Chi, 95 residents in Taitung's Taimali and Jinfeng village have been rendered homeless by the typhoon, which scored a direct hit on Taiwan last weekend.

The charity promised to erect 95 prefab units, using a similar approach as after the 921 earthquake in 1999, to house the homeless families by the end of August.
