Phra Rattanasopon Jittalo, of Wat Pa Salawan, said the petition against Phra Mongkhol Wattanakhun, or Luang Phor Perm, abbot of Wat Pa Salawan in Muang district, will be lodged with Phra Thepratchamongkolmethi, chief of Region 11 in Bangkok.
Phra Rattanasopon said the monks and laymen decided to bypass the provincial chief monk because he refused to consider the allegations despite evidence.
He said the group will also ask the chief of Region 11 to set up a committee to investigate the abbot's alleged misconduct and to eject him from the temple compound.
Phra Mongkhol, 70, is accused of having sex with Molee Supanyo, 48. He declined to comment.
He was allegedly found with the woman in his living quarters in the early hours of Wednesday.
