Thailand: Buddhist university boost for government

The Nation, Feb 11, 2006

Bangkok, Thailand -- Mahamakut Buddhist University, in a rare move, yesterday issued a statement in support of the government and denouncing “certain groups of people that are inciting confusion in society”.

The statement said those people were attempting to rally with the goal of an eventual uprising that would overthrow the government.

?There is also an attempt to lure institutions of higher education to serve as a tool to benefit those people?s cause,? the monastic university?s statement said.

It added that the government had come to power in a democratic way and that it was against the Constitution to bring down such an administration.
