Thai PM visits Buddhist temple in Pattani

Pattani, Thailand -- Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva led a special committee of ministers to visit a Buddhist temple in this southern border province Saturday.

Abhisit and his entourage visited the Piyaram Temple in Pattani's Yaring district at 1:30 pm.

About 3,000 people welcomed him and the ministers amid tight security.

Abhisit assured the local people that his government would not ignore their problems and would speed up approvals of development projects for the region.

The prime minister left for a visit of a royal model farm project in Pattani's Pulopuyoh district at 3:30 pm.
