Senior Buddhist clerics on Laos visit

Ha Noi, Vietnam -- The Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha's Executive Council Deputy President Most Venerable Duong Nhon, met his Lao counterpart, Boukham Buphavong, in Vientiane on October 25 to discuss religious training and to promote religious ties between the two countries.

Most Venerable Nhon and Buphavong, who is Deputy President of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation, also discussed plans to hold workshops on Buddhism, cultural exhibitions, and to exchange more Buddhist texts and books, as well as to increase the number of scholarships for intended monks and nuns.

The Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha and the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation would do their best for peace, stability and happiness for the entire human race the world over, for the common interests of the two nations, and for religious development in the two countries, pledged the two senior Buddhist clerics.

Most Venerable Nhon and his party, including other members of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha Executive Council, arrived in Laos on October 24, becoming the highest Buddhist cleric to visit Laos so far.
