3,000 Buddhists attend Kathina robe-offering ceremony

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam -- Nearly 3,000 monks and nuns gathered at Pho Minh pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday to attend a Kathina robe-offering ceremony.

Thai Consul General in HCM City Sompong Sanguanbun, on behalf of the Thai King, offered Kathina robes to the Pho Minh pagoda and its head, Venerable Thich Thien Tam.

Most Venerable Thich Tu Nhon, Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha's Executive Council, said the offering of Kathina robes is a traditional time of joy for the Buddhist community nationwide. The ceremony demonstrated the solidarity and fine relations between the Buddhist communities of the two countries.

The Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries expressed their thanks to the Thai King and Queen and wished the Kingdom of Thailand prosperity.
