Buddhists share sufferings with flood victims

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam -- Buddhist dignitaries and followers in Ho Chi Minh City have raised more than VND 2.2 billion to support flood victims in the Central Highlands and central provinces.

The figure included VND 135 million that was raised at the Vinh Nghiem pagoda on September 1.

The donation campaign was launched in response to calls by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

The Fatherland Front Central Committee's Ho Chi Minh City chapter reported that it received more than VND 9 billion and 2.4 tonnes of essential goods in donations for flood victims.

Of the sum, VND 3.7 billion were already handed to the victims in Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Kon Tum and Tra Vinh provinces.
